Region 5
Horsemanship

The C.S.H.A. Horsemastership program provides an opportunity for youngsters and adults to learn more about horses and horsemanship in general.
|
|
The program is open to all region members. Children and new horse owners are
especially encouraged to participate.
This is an excellent program for everyone. It gives youngsters a good foundation in
horsemanship and the opportunity to earn something for their future. It also
provides a "refresher course" for those that have been around horses for a while.
At study sessions, participants learn about horse health, maintenance and feeding,
tack, grooming, etc.
There are several categories: English, Western, Gymkhana, and Combined
(English & Western). Each category is divided into four divisions: boy, girl, man,
and woman.
In July participants compete at Region level by completing a riding and grooming
test where they are judged by approved judges on the type of riding they normally
ride/compete in (i.e., English, Western, Gymkhana) and how well they groom their
horse.
They also complete a written test covering health, safety, grooming and the horse
in general. The combined scores of the riding, grooming and written tests are used
to determine place standings.
The top placing participants of each category division become the Region
Champions and receive a Region award. Champions under 18 years of age also
receive a scholarship. The Region Champions are eligible to compete at state level
at the State Championship Show for additional awards and scholarships.
Scholarships are redeemed and used for the continuation of the participants
education after graduation from high school.
